Position Summary

The Family Engagement & Communications Specialist is a dynamic hybrid role designed to strengthen family relationships and elevate agency-wide communication. This position supports a caseload of approximately 15 families while also serving as a key contributor to digital communications, marketing, content creation, and public engagement for both CFS Inc. and the Head Start Association of New Mexico (HSANM).

The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, tech-savvy, and creative; someone who can build genuine relationships with families and also communicate our mission with clarity and visual appeal across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT & ADVOCACY (Caseload of 15 Families)

  • Build trusting, culturally responsive relationships with assigned families.
  • Guide families through Family Partnership Agreements and goal-setting processes.
  • Provide referrals, support follow-up, and monitor progress.
  • Assist families in navigating community resources, transitions, and program requirements.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in ChildPlus.
  • Participate in family events, engagement activities, and parent meetings.
  • Uphold confidentiality, dignity, and respect at all times.

COMMUNICATIONS, DIGITAL CONTENT & OUTREACH (Agency-Wide)

Social Media & Digital Messaging

  • Create, design, and upload content for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Groups, and ClassDojo.
  • Work closely with the agency’s ClassDojo Administrator to ensure smooth, timely, and clear parent communication.
  • Support center teams in sharing reminders, calendars, highlights, and emergency alerts.

Newsletters

  • Develop and distribute the monthly Parent Newsletter and monthly Staff Newsletter.
  • Coordinate with program leaders to gather updates, photos, events, and announcements.
  • Ensure newsletters are visually engaging, branded, and easy to read.

Digital Displays & Center TVs

  • Design and update center television slideshows featuring events, announcements, celebrations, and community resources.
  • Partner with center leadership to ensure content is current and accurate.

Website Support (CFS Inc. & HSANM)

  • Assist with website content updates, maintenance, design improvements, and posting of new materials.
  • Work with leadership to ensure both websites reflect accurate, timely, and professional content.
  • Collaborate with the HSANM team on statewide communications as needed.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Support communication with community partners about agency events, outreach opportunities, and collaborations.
  • Assist in maintaining contact lists and promoting events across platforms.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in agency events such as Parent Power Hour, Children’s Celebrations, health fairs, and family engagement activities.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality messaging that reflects the agency’s values and branding.
  • Support program-wide communication initiatives and special projects.
  • Follow all Head Start Performance Standards and agency policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong communication, writing, and relationship-building skills
  • Comfort with technology, mobile apps, and digital communication
  • Experience working with children and families

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in family services, communications, marketing, or public relations
  • Strong design skills (newsletters, graphics, digital slideshows)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Creative storytelling and content development
  • Strong editing, grammar, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to learn digital platforms and manage content calendars
  • Highly organized, deadline-driven, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, staff, and families
  • Deep commitment to family partnership and positive communication.

Work Environment

  • Monday–Friday schedule with flexibility
  • Travel between centers as needed
  • Occasional evening or weekend events
